There has been many people who've I’ve met and
have made a big impact in my life. But the three people I would like to talk
about would be my mom, my dad and my older sister. These three people have been
thru some hard times, and they have taught me to see life in a different way.
They mean a lot to me and I thank God for making them part of my life and for
choosing me to be part of their family.
I will start with my
dad, he is a really hard working man who has been working since he was
approximately 15 years old. He is the youngest out of 13 children and has an amazing
heart. He was an alcoholic for about 30 years and has been thru some hard
times. He has opened business of his own that have failed yet he still
continued and never let anyone or anything bring him down. One phrase that he
taught me is “everyone in this world is given the opportunity to be someone in
this world take advantage of it and be different than everyone else”. My dad is
not a person who likes to show his emotions, his way of loving is differently, and
I believe that is due to the way he was raised. He is the man in my life who I know
will never say no to me, and I know I will have his support in any decision I want
to make.
My mother is the
second person who I would like to describe, she is a happy, energetic person
who enjoys life every day to the fullest. Everyone who has met her and who
knows her will say she always has a smile in her face and I think I got her
personality. She is friendly and loves meeting new people. Her main focus has
always been her children and her family, she protect us against anyone and
anything. She is my best friend she is a person who doesn’t judge you but gives
you advice. She has been thru a lot she got married at the age of 15 and had my
sister at the age of 16, and she had to live with an alcoholic for 20 years. I
love this women because I am the person I am today because of her, I know I have
her personality and I am so proud to have her as a role model in my life.
Lastly I would like to
talk about my sister. She is older than me by 3 years, and has been one of my
best friends since I was a little girl. She has a disability she is deaf but
she is one of the happiest person I have ever met in my life. Her personality
is incredible her smile and her dimples make anyone smile and brighten their
day. The reason she is so important in my life is because I could imagine how
hard it could be to grow up without knowing how music sounds, or how your mom
or dads voice sounds. She is very caring and always made sure her sibling were
okay if anyone ever needed anything she would go out of her way to try to make
everything better. She loves school and unfortunately due to her condition it
has been harder for her but she is still continuing with her dream, and doesn’t
let anything get in between. She is a fighter for what she wants and doesn’t
let anything get in her way. She is now married and she married an incredible
man who helps her a lot and understands her. Her smile and personality could
brighten anyone’s day and she has brighten my life by being my sister.

This past weekend I went to a
warehouse in Long Beach where they sell anything for interior houses. As you
walk in they have a display on carpet rugs. They have from any size to any
color to any design anyone could think of. Prices range from the size and
material. The store is divided into many sections there is a section were they
have decorations such as paintings, clocks, candles, and much more. Another section
where there is blankets from any size and different prints on them. There is
pillows and bed sheets. Once you walk more into the warehouse there is a
section of curtains. I would recommend this store to anyone who is remolding
their home. Prices at this store are cheaper than what they would be at any
retail store. Many people drive to Long beach to that specific store to buy big
inventory and then sell it for more and get profit out of it. The only disadvantage
of this place is since prices are so low people go to that store a lot and is always
busy. We purchased eight blankets, and got three sets of curtains bought five
pillows and three sets of bed sheets and our total was not more than two hundred
dollars. We had purchased blankets from this place previously but someone had
bought them for us and the quality in the blankets were really good and to the
moment those blankets are still in good conditions. After visiting this store I
want to recommend anyone who is looking to remodel their home or anyone who is
interested in blankets for their children. This is a place where you have to
come early in the morning and have to have the patience to go thru every row of
the warehouse to be able to get good product and for a good price.

Blog Entry Eleven
The truth to our last blog was number four. I went to five elementary schools as a child. So far I have been enjoying this semester. I am currently only taking two classes on campus and they are only Wednesday and Thursday. Monday and Tuesdays I have time to catch up in my homework and my studying. Even though I am only taking these two classes I have a lot of homework and always have to spend a full amount of time in doing homework. What makes me stay motivated are my parents and brothers. I want my brothers to continue with school and I feel that by them seeing how much I struggle on going to school at night and working full time that motivates them as well. My mom has always told me to stay in school that sooner or later it will benefit me and sometimes I feel like giving up and I just think about her advice motivates me continue. I want to be able to have a good career and be able to provide for them when they get older and in order for me to have that career I need to continue with my education. Challenges that I face within the semester would be my work schedule changing and interfering with my school schedule. During this semester the only class in which I have more homework and waste most of my studying would be this class. I am also taking Biology Lab and that class is more hands on and less homework. I enjoy this class because partial is online and the other half is in class, the only thing that I don’t like from this class is that we have essays due almost every week. I enjoy writing but sometimes it gets to hectic. So far this semester has been one of my favorites semester because I am not taking a lot of classes and before I have and I would stress out. Next semester I am going back to at least 3 to 4 classes per week because I want to graduate by next year.

Favorite song
"When I Was Your Man"
Same bed but it feels just a little bit bigger now
Our song on the radio but it don't sound the same
When our friends talk about you, all it does is just tear me down
Cause my heart breaks a little when I hear your name
It all just sounds like oooooh…
Mmm, too young, too dumb to realize
That I should have bought you flowers
And held your hand
Should have gave you all my hours
When I had the chance
Take you to every party
Cause all you wanted to do was dance
Now my baby's dancing
But she's dancing with another man
My pride, my ego, my needs, and my selfish ways
Caused a good strong woman like you to walk out my life
Now I never, never get to clean up the mess I made, ohh…
And it haunts me every time I close my eyes
It all just sounds like oooooh…
Mmm, too young, too dumb to realize
That I should have bought you flowers
And held your hand
Should have gave you all my hours
When I had the chance
Take you to every party
Cause all you wanted to do was dance
Now my baby's dancing
But she's dancing with another man
Although it hurts
I'll be the first to say that I was wrong
Oh, I know I'm probably much too late
To try and apologize for my mistakes
But I just want you to know
I hope he buys you flowers
I hope he holds your hand
Give you all his hours
When he has the chance
Take you to every party
Cause I remember how much you loved to dance
Do all the things I should have done
When I was your man
Do all the things I should have done
When I was your man
Our song on the radio but it don't sound the same
When our friends talk about you, all it does is just tear me down

Changed my Mind
I have always thought attending
school and getting a degree would bring a stable income into a person’s life. I
have come to the conclusion that now at this point in our country this in not
happening anymore. Many people have attended Universities and have graduated
and have not been able to find a job for what they went to school for due to
the economy. I have recently changed my mind about how degrees now don’t get
you into your dream job most of the time is by having the experience or by
knowing someone who already has been
there and hooking you up with a
position. I recently met a person who went to school and now has a big school
loan and was working in a bank as a teller. That person was getting paid the
same thing as a friend who didn’t have a degree and who had just been a part
time teller at a bank and their salary was the same. I also believe that
company rather hire someone who doesn’t have the degree to pay them less than a
person who went to school, and that is also due to the economy in our country. Many
big companies are also suffering from the income and have to find a way to
benefit their companies as well. I am not against college, but sometimes I do
ask myself what if all this time and money that I am investing doesn’t make a
difference in my life due to how our country has changed and I think is going
to continue to change. I hope this changes back to normal soon because I do
want to encourage my kids to attend college for a better life, but if it doesn’t
I will feel guilty by telling them that a degree gives you better opportunities
when in reality the real world is not focusing on education.

INTERVIEW
I enjoy talking to new people, so when Ms. Croker told the class
about interviewing one of our classmates I knew it would be a fun activity. We
were assigned a number and we had to look for our partners. My partners name
was Anthony Oliveras, I then began my interview. He shared with me that he was born
in Bakersfield but he didn’t like it due to the weather and mean people. He
grew up in Oxnard and graduated in 2003. He enjoys traveling and has been to
eight countries. He is currently employed
with the Boys and Girls Club as a program coordinator, but is going to school to
get his degree in business. What motivates
Anthony to attend college is the idea of a better life. He currently has a very busy schedule he works
between 6 to 7 hours per day Monday thru Friday and is a full time student. His
weekends are dedicated to himself. Three words that describe Anthony are dedicated,
hard worker, and motivated. In 10 years he sees himself achieving his master
degree in a business, administration or accounting. His motivation to continue
with his education is by finishing school now, because time continues no matter
what so he wants to get his degree sooner than later. What he likes about Oxnard College is that is
really close to the beach, and his dislikes is that is really hard to find
parking. He believes that culture does not influence his decision in attending
college. He has been thru some big surprises thru his college years. One of his
experiences was that a couple years ago he took a couple business classes and stopped
for a year and half, and when he went back to school he found out the classes
that he had taken were no longer accredited, and had to re-take them. I really enjoyed the activity that was given
to us and really enjoyed making a new friend.

My Hardest Decision
Moving out was the toughest decision that I had to make at the age of 18. I lived in a small town named Palmdale and I graduated from Pete Knight high school in 2009. After high school i took a medical course in Antelope Valley University in Lancaster, CA. Since Palmdale and Lancaster are small cities located in the middle of nowhere, it was really hard to find any job openings. My parents would have to travel every day to Valencia, which was a 45 minute to an hour drive to get there and to come back. Even though I didn’t want to leave my family, I had to look for a new town that would offer better job opportunities in order to be able to continue my education.
Since Oxnard had better job opportunities compared to Palmdale, I then decided to move to Oxnard. Also, knowing that I had an aunt that I could stay with until I found a home to stay with on my own was very beneficial. After speaking to my aunt, I then decided to let my parents know of the new decision that I was making. They were concerned for the tough decision I had made, yet they supported my decision. When I first arrived I was scared, nervous, lost, and confused. I didn’t know what the future had for me and if I was going to be able to make it on my own, or go back to my parents as a failure.
The next day I began looking for a job. I wasn’t too familiar with the area, so I would drive my white little metro around the city and whenever I would see any medical office I would park and go into their office to drop off my resume. When I would go into offices asking if they were hiring, I came across many rude people, yet that never stopped me from going into other medical office. During my first week of being in this new city, I was driving back to my aunt’s house after a long day of searching for jobs; I was in a red light waiting patiently for the light to turn green when I heard a big “BOOM”. I got scared and immediately looked back, and noticed that I had just been rear ended by another car. Since I wanted to make sure the other person was okay, I pulled over to the side. Although the other car was a brand new, I was concerned since the person who was driving was an elderly person. He apologized and asked me if I was okay. Since we were both okay, we exchanged insurances and drove away. As I was driving, I saw a chiropractic office. Knowing that I had previous chiropractic experience, I immediately pulled into the parking lot and went in to ask if they were hiring. Luckily for me the doctor was looking for an extra employee for his office, so he asked me to leave my resume with his office manager. He then told me that he would call me after reviewing it. The next morning I received a phone call from that doctor asking me if I was available for an interview at 11:00 am. Without thinking twice I replied with a yes. At 11:00 am I walked into his office, I was feeling nervous, my palms were sweating, and I was practicing in my head what I was going to say.
When I got called in into his office my mind went blank, all the practicing I had done had completely disappeared. He asked how I had heard about the job opening, and I told him about the car accident I was in, which led me into finding his office. He laughed and continued on with his interview. After a few question, our interview finally came to an end. He then told me that he was going to talk to his office manager and he would contact me within a couple of days. The next day I received a phone call. It was the doctor informing me that I got the job. He also stated to me that I was going to start within the following week. I was really excited because I had only been in Oxnard for a few weeks and I had already found a job. My duties in his office were to help him with all the personal injuries reports and workers compensation. Within a few months I was given a raise and given more duties.
After being employed for a few months, I knew I wanted to continue with my education so I decided to apply to Oxnard College. That fall I began attending school in the evenings, which led me to meeting new people and making new friends. At the time I was still living with my aunt, but I missed having my own privacy. I then knew I had to move into my own place. Even though I wasn’t living with my parents, I informed them about my new decision. I always informed them about any new decision I wanted to make because I liked to hear their personal opinion. I then made my final decision and moved into my own apartment. I have now been there for over a year. Also, now I have transferred into an even better paying job, and I’m still continuing with my education. After the entire struggle that I went through, I learned a lot. I have been on my own for over two years now. It was really hard getting to the place where I am today. I now look back to see how I started, and at the age that I started and I am proud of my accomplishments that I have achieved. I got to Oxnard with only 100 dollars in my pocket, and driving a small white old car. Now I have my own place a new car, followed with a lot of responsibilities which have made me mature and have taught me how the real world is.
There have been many struggles that I have been through in these couple of years, for example getting sick and not having my mom close by to take care of me, missing my two little brothers, coming home to an empty house and not having homemade food. I have taken a big responsibility at a young age, but I managed to make it through, and I still continue on going for better and bigger things.

Texting has become very popular to
almost any human being. I believe
texting was invented to get access to someone in a quick way. To communicate with
someone while they were in anything such as an appointment, meeting, work and
had a question that had to be addressed and was important. Now texting has
moved to a different level. Many people don’t communicate now everything is
being texted. Our society has become even lazy to have a conversation with
someone, that they rather type it in their phones and send it. I am not going
to say I dislike it I myself text all the time but I do believe it has taken a
big part of our lives and is continuing in the younger generation.
Texting has taken such a big part
of our lives that many people can’t wait to open a text and do it while their
driving. This is a really dangerous and I have seen it myself while I drive I seen
cars slightly moving to the side and when I drive next to them I see a bright
light by their face. Many accidents are
caused due to texting and driving. Texting
is convenient but it has to be used properly.

Reality TV Shows
Reality TV shows are becoming a big conflict in society now a
days. I rarely watch any television but when I do is really hard to find
something interesting to watch, due to the fact that almost every channel now
airs reality TV shows. MTV is a channel that
is known for reality T.V shows such as teen mom, the real world, jersey shore,
and many more. By these shows being
aired I question myself what is their goal for these types of shows to be shown
thought out the United Sates. In my opinion none of these shows rely a good
message to the audience. Being pregnant
at 15 and yet still partying and doing drugs like the girl in a TV show who is
well known relies a bad message to those teen moms who get influenced by TV.
Many people might not think about this but many decision of a
human being could be done due to what they watch. Jersey shore which a very
popular TV show that is based on partying every night and getting drunk,
hooking up with girls/or boys and having no responsibilities. Many young people
might think that is the right thing to do and follow their steps.
I have seen reality shows and they could be very entertaining
and funny. I sometimes spend me Sunday watching Keeping up with the Kardashians
all day and once I am done I start wondering how my life would be if I was
them. Yet I then come to reality and say to myself is just a show, and it might
even be scripted and is not based on reality. What really makes me mad with these cast
member in these shows is they become really wealthy after their done with their
shows. For example the members for the show
Teen Mom I now see them in the covers of magazines and traveling all over the
world. Makes me mad due to the fact that they have no education, acted like
fools and relayed bad messages yet still they get awarded for it.
I understand the reason the TV channels decide to show
reality TV shows instead of any documentary or any other show is because they
know that if they show documentaries or anything else that could drop ratings
and could make the company lose money. They are more focus on the money instead
of how this problem could be affecting many people. Reality show have been aired for a period of
time now but I do believe it has grown and do think is going to keep growing.
High school teens do get influenced by all the TV shows. The reason I say this
is because I have drove by schools and I see young males with their hair spiked
up like Pauly D from jersey shore. We can’t control what is being aired on TV
but what I do believe is that we as adults should set an example for the teens
and try to explain how TV show in the long run could affect their behaviors.

Fast Food
While growing up I was raised in a Hispanic family in where my mom would cook every day of the week. I remember when I was younger I would always wait for Sunday to come so after church we could go out to eat. My parents had four kids it must have had been expensive to go out too often that they decided we would do it once or twice every month. Eating out was never a part of neither my family’s life nor mine until I became a teenager. Every time during lunch during my high school years I would find it easy to drive to McDonalds and have a burger with a shake. I would go out almost every day during my senior year. I didn’t think of it as anything bad, it was just a way to get out of school for a bit and get together with friends. We would go anywhere from taco bell to Carls Jr, subway jack in the box and Wendy’s. My mom would always get mad at me for wasting money out in fast food restaurants, but eating inside the cafeteria the food was nasty and it was bad as fast food so I wouldn’t mind spending but knowing the taste was better.
Now I could actually say that I don’t enjoy eating out. I miss my mom’s cooking and every time I go out to visit her all I ask is for her to make me a dish of anything that she wants. I am trying to change my eating habits but for me sometimes is hard. I don’t have time to cook and I really don’t know how to cook that well. When I have time I have to call my mom for some ideas. The only reason I go to fast food restaurants is because that is my only option after a long day of work and before entering class at 7:00 pm. I sometimes run out of ideas to eat because I’ve had it all and I just eat it to calm my hunger. I have finally made the decision of waking up a few minutes early to prepare lunch for work and for after work and have followed some people on the web to get ideas for fast and healthy recipes and it has helped. I am older now and need to take care of my body now because maybe in 5 years it will be too late.

Past, Present, Future
My
past has been filled with many good and bad memories. I would like share some
with my classmates. I was born in Oxnard and grew up in many cities. I moved
from Minnesota to Mexico to Palmdale to Lancaster and back to Oxnard. I went to
more than 10 schools during my childhood and teen years. But I managed to make
thru, and the good outcome was I got to meet a lot of people. I am the second
oldest from my family. I have an older sister who is now married and two
younger brothers. During my childhood I was always the responsible child who
had to take care of my sister and my brothers. My older sister was born deaf
and my parents worked all day so I had to watch over them. My childhood was a
little different compared to the kids that were my ages but I learned a lot.
Now
is time to focus on me and my goals. My brothers are now older and could take
care of themselves and I decided to focus on me. I moved from Palmdale back to
Oxnard about 2 ½ years ago. I had finished high school and had taken a medical
assistant program and wanted to work because I always had and I also wanted to
continue with my education. I then decided that moving here to Oxnard would give
me better opportunities due to the fact that Palmdale doesn’t have many job
opportunities and everyone has to travel about 45 minutes to get to their jobs.
I then did it; I came here without knowing anyone only an aunt and stayed with
her for a few months. I then began working and started school and now I rent an
apartment and live on my own. I work full time and I am going to school to
become a sign language interpreter.
My
future is going to be successful. I say this because I believe that working
hard always pays off. I want to do so many things. I want to travel and take my
family with me. I want to help families who have children with disabilities,
become a tutor to the parents who have children who are deaf. I want to enjoy
life and live life without a daily routine of waking up and going to work every
day. I want to have my own schedule and be my own boss. I know this will happened
because I don’t plan on working for someone all my life. I have learned from my
past I am learning thru my present and I will succeed in my future.
